Philosophy II: Self and Society

One of the central research projects of 20th century continental philosophy was an attempt to naturalize humanity, to show that how we understand ourselves and the world is the result of historical accidents, the evolved structure of our perceptual apparatus, and the organization of society. This course will survey these theories, paying special attention to how the organization of the urban landscape shapes our political, social, and moral consciousness today, while simultaneously providing the means of reimagining our city and ourselves tomorrow.
