Platforms and Automation

Platforms and Automation operates at the intersection of design, technology, and culture to provide the infrastructure for advanced research into these areas. The lab uses cutting edge equipment and software, including an architectural scale robotics facility, advanced sensing hardware, and powerful multi-GPU computer workstations for faculty-led funded research projects. The lab also provides opportunities for students through research assistant positions and designated courses to participate and benefit from the most advanced architectural research.

Urban Pasts and Futures

Urban Pasts and Futures generates fresh approaches to the pressing problems facing cities today, and then incorporates these into the curriculum through the development of new courses and public programs. Research projects target such urgent urban issues as poverty and homelessness, transportation and ageing infrastructure, equity and social justice, the fading of relied-upon industries and the arrival of promising new ones.
